The University is pleased to announce that, beginning May 4, 2009, Facebook will be accessible via the Concordia University wired network.
The decision to reactivate this popular social networking website was taken in support of the university’s mission. Facebook has become an important tool for numerous Concordians, specifically in terms of collaboration with academia, researchers and colleagues. Based on feedback from staff and faculty, this website is beneficial to some university members in a variety of ways, from the advertising of campus events to student/faculty recruiting.
After the recent improvement of certain security checks and procedures at Concordia, including the installation of a new firewall, the university made the decision to officially reinstate Facebook.
Facebook best practices
We would like to remind the Concordia community of the importance of selecting appropriate passwords (i.e. not based on personal information), as well as adjusting privacy settings to help protect your identity and the security of our network. Please take the time to read and implement the Facebook best practice tips.
Password tips
Use a mix of numbers, letters and non-dictionary words to create strong, hard-to-crack passwords, and never give your password to anyone for any reason. Also, never share or write down your password, and remember to change it frequently.
For more information, visit the helpline website (this link applies to all passwords, not just Facebook).
