Message concerning the current H1N1 flu virus (swine influenza) situation

To the university community:

The university is closely monitoring the evolution of the H1N1 flu virus situation and we are in constant contact with health officials. The university will communicate, without delay, any change in status concerning the H1N1 flu virus outbreak.

We are focussing attention on prevention measures on campus including preventative cleaning and hand sanitizing stations in high traffic areas. We are keeping the university informed and continue contingency planning for university operations if the situation changes.

Again, there is no cause for alarm, but the university community should be vigilant and follow basic preventative measures as suggested by the Public Health Agency:

  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water
  • Use hand sanitizer regularly
  • Cough and sneeze in your arm or sleeve and refrain from any close contact with your colleagues if you suspect you may be sick
  • Get your annual flu shot
  • Keep doing what you normally do, but stay home if sick
  • Regularly check the Fight Flu website for more information
  • Check the Voyage.ca website for travel notices and advisories
  • Talk to a health professional if you experience flu-like symptoms: fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, body aches, fatigue and lack of appetite.

Faculty, students and staff who suspect that they might have been in contact with people carrying the H1N1 virus, are asked to make arrangements with their supervisors to stay at home and to contact a doctor.

Up-to-date information about travel advisories can be found on the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada website.
