Moodle replaces Site Generator for online course web sites

IITS are pleased to announce that Moodle will be replacing Site Generator as Concordia University’s course website system. The decision was based on our commitment to provide a reliable system with development possibilities. All Site Generator sites, therefore, will be converted to Moodle over the next few months.

Moodle is a free, open-source alternative to commercial courseware that is widely used in universities around the world. Its large client/developer base, as well as optional commercial development and support, make it the optimal choice. Introduced earlier this year at Concordia, it has been well received by the community.

Moodle’s many features — including forums, quizzes, assignments, and glossaries — will provide Site Generator users with the same functionality they are accustomed to, and more. Numerous courses have already been successfully migrated from Site Generator to Moodle, and IITS will continue to work closely with faculty members to facilitate the transition. Please note that your existing Site Generator content can be transferred to Moodle automatically.

Site Generator clients are encouraged to contact IITS in order to obtain their new Moodle account/s by sending an e-mail to ccw-support@concordia.ca (questions may also be directed to this address). A member of our Training & Development Group will contact you as soon as possible. Moodle workshops can be registered for at http://iits.concordia.ca/services/training/register.
