Concordia University is proud to join the Société des directeurs des musées montréalais (SDMM) as a partner in the program, Montréal, Ville de verre.
Concordia is a natural collaborator in this celebration of glass art. The university is a leader in the formation of artists, in its stewardship of public art and art integration.
Concordia’s public collection currently features works in glass by some of Canada’s foremost artists; Marcelle Ferron, Jean McEwen, Nicolas Baier, François Houdé and Eric Wesselow.
Ranging in size and scope, these works grace both the downtown Sir George Williams Campus in Quartier Concordia and the west-end Loyola Campus.
This spring, a new glass work by Yehouda Chaki will be installed in one of the new pedestrian tunnels in Quartier Concordia. The university is delighted to celebrate this milestone commission for the Greek-born artist whose works hang in public and private collections across Canada.
By fall 2010, another artwork in glass will be unveiled in the Perform Centre — a new state-of-the-art centre for health research and training on the Loyola campus. The call has just gone out to Québec artists to submit their designs for consideration.
Also this spring, as part of Montréal, Ville de verre, the public will be invited to tour the art in Quartier Concordia and discover some of the university’s outstanding glass works.
