2007 University Research Awards Winners

Dec. 11, 2006 | Dr. Louise Dandurand, Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies, and Chair of the University Research Awards Adjudication Committee, is very pleased to announce that Dr. William Reimer, (Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Arts and Science), Dr. Sofiène Tahar, (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science), Dr. Muthukumaran Packirisamy, (Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science), and Dr. Marylène Gagné, (Department of Management, John Molson School of Business), are the 2007 University Research Awards recipients.

Dr. William Reimer has made a profound contribution to research on rural economies in Canada and internationally. Dr. Sofiène Tahar is one of Canada’s significant innovators in microelectronics research. Muthukumaran Packirisamy has contributed to the advancement of his field of optical bioMEMS. Dr. Marylène Gagné’s research is in the fields of management and organizational psychology.

The University Research Awards were first adjudicated in 1998 to recognize and promote research and creative activity at the university.

Each awardee will receive a $5,000 research grant and the privilege of holding the title of “Concordia University Research Fellow” for one year.

Dr. Packirisamy and Dr. Gagné won the award in the Junior/Emerging category, while Dr. Reimer and Dr. Tahar were honored in the Senior/Established category.
