Renowned Irish actor Gabriel Byrne will be visiting Concordia this Saturday October 21 as part of the Cine Gael Montreal Irish film series.
Cost: $10
When: Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
Where: DeSeve Cinema, 1400 de Maisonneuve W.
Although best known for his acting, Byrne is also a film directer, producer and writer, and has more than 70 film credits to his name.
Cine Gael Montreal, in conjunction with the Centre for Canadian Irish Studies, will be screening Byrne’s film Into the West (1992, 102 min), which he both produced and starred in.
The film, a magical-realist fable about a family trying to make it in the gritty, violent projects of Dublin, also stars David Kelly (Waking Ned Devine) and Ellen Barkin. It was directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco) and written by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father).
Byrne will say a few words before the film, and will then be on hand for a longer Q & A session afterwards.
This will be followed by a chance to meet the star and to have some wine.
Those interested in booking a place should email Antoine Maloney.
Tickets will be held at the door and payment collected upon arrival. Tickets will not be held after 6:45pm, so please come early.
