CUTV’s Summer Video Bootcamp for Youth, August 2 - 21, 2010

Concordia University Television’s Summer Video Bootcamp offers a two-week intro program and a one week advanced program for youth to learn about film and television production. Campers will take part in a number of hands-on production workshops, under the guidance of skilled mentors, before teaming up to create a short film. Open to youth aged 15+.

Fantasia Film Festival, July 8 - 28

The film festival Fantasia returns to Concordia this summer. Always a popular event, it’s been dubbed North America’s premiere showcase of international genre cinema.

The Department of Theatre presents: The Return of Ulysses, June 23

The Return of Ulysses is based on Monteverdi’s last opera: a story of the magic of the ancient Gods who play with the fate of humankind, their puppets. Concordia theatre students will perform as puppeteers, and the performance will feature professional baroque singers and musicians.

Laurie Babin, “Are We Teaching What Students Should Be Learning?” June 22

John Molson School of Business Royal Bank Distinguished Visiting Speaker Series proudly presents Laurie A. Babin, Abell Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship University of Louisiana Monroe. What should our marketing graduates know and be able to do? While several studies have examined what should be taught in specific courses, such as marketing research, none have examined the marketing discipline in general. Marketing academicians and practitioners rated the importance of learning outcomes, and several similarities and differences emerged. This presentation will discuss the most important concepts/skills each group deem important.

Awakening Youth Benefit Concert, June 19

The Awakening Youth Benefit Concert is an event serving to inspire the youth and to impact the community through performance art. There will be live performances, including David Hodges, Lazy Legz, Enigma Dance and more. All proceeds of the event will be donated to World Vision and their efforts to restore what has been lost in Haiti.

The Frog and the Princess: A Musical Ecodrama, June 17 - 19

The Centre for the Arts in Human Development presents The Frog and the Princess: A Musical Ecodrama. It is a unique musical play based on the classic fairytale, The Frog Prince, and will show at the F. C. Smith Auditorium, Loyola Campus, 7141 Sherbrooke St. West.

Graduating Students Exhibition, June 14 - July 2

The talents of Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts students will be on display at the Eighth Annual Graduating Students Exhibition. This annual exhibition, a juried show that provides students with an opportunity to display their work in a public venue and commemorates the completion of their studies, showcases a cross-section of the many disciplines and research activities of Studio Arts students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Eureka! Science Festival, June 11 - 13

The Eureka! Festival is a celebration of science for everyone. On June 11, 12 and 13, 2010, join us on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal for the fourth edition of the Festival. Jason King, “Remembering Famine Orphans: The Transmission of Famine Memory between Ireland and Quebec”, June 9

The Irish-born priest of Sherbrooke parish served on Grosse Île in July, 1847, and then presided over a mass-adoption of Famine orphans into French-Canadian families. Sellar relied on O’Reilly’s testimony yet remained unaware that, shortly after his return from Grosse Île, O’Reilly founded an organization to promote French-Canadian and Irish Catholic colonization of the Eastern Townships in order to help safeguard the faith of his parishioners.

Traveller: Dick Evans, June 6 - 11

An array of images taken by Dick Evans, former chief executive of Rio Tinto Alcan, throughout his global travels. Featured works are indicative of keen observation and celebrations of pattern, and are exceptional examples of high quality printing techniques. Traveller will be presented in celebration of the Dick and Gretchen Evans Prize for Photography award ceremony. Award recipient information will be posted on Friday, June 11, 2010.

Colors of Concordia 2010, June 6

Every year the Colors of Concordia Team rides in the Tour de l’Île which is a 50 km bike ride around the island of Montreal. Colors of Concordia is dedicated to encouraging and promoting projects that help bring about a greater understanding between cultures. For the past seven years, Concordia has been the largest group participating in the event. Sign up today!
