Lempertz auction house in Dusseldorf, Germany is holding a sale Saturday, November 21, which will include the painting “Fish still life, shellfish, perch, pike, oyster and cat” by Alexander Adriaenssen (1587-1661), being claimed by the Estate of the late art dealer and collector Max Stern.

The university has issued H1N1 guidelines for students, faculty and staff and measures to allow for vaccination time for staff and to report H1N1 illness among staff. Concordia professor Françoise Sullivan, Faculty of Fine Arts, has been appointed as Officer of the Order of Canada. Sullivan is considered a leading figure in contemporary art in Canada. This multidisciplinary artist has been creating works for over 60 years her work has been shown in many exhibitions and retrospectives at various galleries, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Concordia is proud to announce that a member of the Concordia community, student Siena Anstis, has won the Forces Avenir 2009 prize in the undergraduate category. This prestigious honor rewards students for their social commitment and involvement in projects that contribute to the greater good.

Concordia celebrated the inauguration of the David O’Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise on Monday, November 16, 2009. The Centre was inaugurated in the presence of David O’Brien, Chancellor of Concordia University and Paul Shrivastava, distinguished professor of Sustainable Enterprise and Director of the Centre, as well as President Judith Woodsworth, members of the O’Brien family and centre stakeholders from the student body, community, and industry.

Concordia University held its fall convocation ceremonies on November 13. Graduating students and their families filled Salle Wilfrid Pelletier in Place des Arts for the three ceremonies, where Concordia also bestowed four honorary doctorates. In honour of the memory of Norman Bethune, and to mark the 70th anniversary of his death, Concordia University, in partnership with members of the Montreal Chinese Community and the City of Montreal, laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the Bethune statue on the corner of De Maisonneuve and Guy.
